The Energy Way

 Each Important Moment

Could all of the casualties please stand up.

We are going to do something together now, but the thing is we are already doing it, because as I said yesterday, every moment is the same as every other moment. So although I haven’t told you yet what we are doing, I hope you are all awake and ready for it.

What now?

(Michael walks through the group joking with participants and making funny noises.)

Well Michael, are we going to do it or are we not? Don’t mess around like this otherwise I am going to sit down and wait until you decide to get on with something. All this playing around! You promised me this morning you were going to do this with them and here you are delaying and delaying. It is almost lunchtime but you still have time to do it.

Right, I am waiting for you all to be peaceful.

(Michael speaks to a participant) Peaceful? Hmm, second degree peacefulness.

(Speaking to another participant) My god, you are busy in that heart of yours. Are you in love because your heart is beating like mad? Such beautiful eyes you have, can I have half an hour with them? (laughter) Just her eyes, nothing more! (laughter) I wouldn’t think of doing anything naughty with my students!

(Michael asks a participant) Where are you?

In the bump.

In the bum?

No, in the bump.

Which bump?

The sound of bump.

I can’t hear a sound of bump.

Bump. (laughter)

Oh, are you hearing that sound in you?

Yes.

Aha, the sound bump is coming in you.

Yes. (laughter)

What do you think it means?

I don’t know.

I don’t know either. Bump? If you spell bump backwards it is pmub. (laughter) Maybe you should try saying that, but you have to stand on your head. You have to turn upside down, say the word backwards, and then you get enlightened! (laughter) Everything turned on its head, it happens.

(Michael speaks to San Chi who was stung by a bee on her foot in the morning) What do you think the message is?

San Chi: Of my foot?

Yes, what is it telling you?

Nothing.

Yes it is.

It is?

Yes, always. Nothing is an accident. There are no accidents in life. That bee has been waiting now for three days for you to step on that spot – a very patient bee! What do you think the message is?

(No reply from San Chi)

There are teachers everywhere. He’s a teacher, she’s a teacher, and that bee is a teacher.

(Michael speaks to Kaylo who fell over and hurt his ankle) And what about your injury Kaylo, how is it?

Kaylo: It is okay.

Do you think you need to get it checked?

No.

Are you sure or are you just hoping?

I am sure.

My friend said that, and then he died.

(Short silence followed by laughter)

I didn’t mean to terrify you or scare you out of your wits!

(Michael whispers to a participant and then speaks to the group) I said to her, “You don’t know what I am going to do next,” and she said, “And you don’t either!” That is my secret, that I don’t know what I am going to do next. But when I don’t know what I am going to do next, something else does.

(Michael speaks to a participant) You are doing – listen everybody because I am talking to you all to some extent – in order to avoid something happening. When you do, as she is doing – I am not doing this to her, the cosmos is not doing it, and the Tao is not doing it – you stay in control. When a new movement comes and you take it over, you get in the driver’s seat and say, “Ah, this feels like a new machine but I am going to drive it.” But when you stop driving and you let whatever is wanting to happen from the cosmos – of which you are a tiny little part but also a pure part – to happen, something will happen that cannot happen as long as you keep control.

Remember the meditation you did yesterday, to just be with the Source and not with the movement. If you are with the movement while it is going you will fall over, but if you are not with the movement but with the Source you will not fall down. I am always asked why people fall over and I have given so many answers on the subject, and it is because you like to control things and because you are holding yourself in a certain way. When you are structured you renew the structure every moment. The structure is not part of your nature so each instant you are repeating the last. When I come and connect with you on another level and awaken energies on this other level – where the energies are strong – then that energy that supports you on the other level is drawn away from the energy that is supporting the way you have been your whole life.

We order movies from Amazon pretty regularly and last night I was watching a movie with Mishka. It was strange because when this one came I said to Mishka, “But I didn’t order this one. It is not on my list.” I give her a list of movies I want to see because we never go to the cinema, so I have to wait a year or two for the movies to come out on DVD, but this movie I didn’t order at all. They also had the wrong label on it and that was interesting to start with. It was a nice little movie called “Before Sunrise”. It was about a young couple who meet on a train in Austria and spend twenty-four hours together. It was a nice couple, a very intelligent couple, and they spend the whole night together wandering around here and there until she leaves for Paris the next morning where she lives. Through the evening they were having different conversations, often quite wise ones, and this young girl of twenty-three years said to the guy at one point something like this: “I think what is most important is not in people but in the space between people.” Just as I said during the Summer Festival, tune in to the space between the people.

So when I come around and work with you, get the feeling that it is not just Michael but also a movement of the space all around. When you are standing, sitting, whatever you are doing, thinking that there is me, there is her, there is him, there is a friend, a mum, a kid, or whoever it might be, the spaces in between are not to be ignored but are equally important.

I am going to demonstrate to you now what I mean about spaces. Safara, come and stand here. Turn around and face the table. Come quite close to me. See my glass of water, would you go, fetch it, and bring it to me.

(Safara brings Michael the glass of water)

Thank you. Now tell me, what did you expect? What was important for you then? What do you remember about that?

Safara: Getting closer to the glass, the weight of the glass, and then moving closer to you.

(Michael puts the glass down again)

Kyane, can you pick that glass up please and bring it to me.

(Kyane picks the glass up and brings it to Michael)

And what was your experience?

Kyane: Coming closer.

From what you have already done, and of course from what I have just said, I see you are beginning to get it. If I said to somebody, “Can you go and open the door,” and you walked over, opened the door, and then I said, “Close the door and come back over here,” if I then asked most people, “What was your experience?” they would say, “Well, I experienced walking over there, opening the door, closing the door, and walking back here.” You go from A to B then back to A. “First I am at A, then I am at B, and then I am back at A.” But being in the space of awareness and presence you are at A, then A1 (Michael starts taking steps), A2, A3, A4, A5, stop. I don’t know why I am stopping but I am stopping, something says stop. I am on my way there, I stop, and I wait. I take a step back, then I step sideways, and then I go forward again – A6, A7, A8, A9, B. Then from B, to B1, B2, B3 (Michael’s hands start clapping as he walks) I don’t know why I am clapping my hands but I do, and B4, B5, B6, B7, B8, B9, C. Then C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6, C7, C8, C9, D.

Now what I am reminding you of or pointing out – which I have already said to you all – is that every instant is equally important. When you are doing something specific like going to the door, what normally happens is the mind says, “Right, I am going out the door.” If I have my eye on the door to go out and that is strong, there is no way that I am going to stop on the way because I am already at the door. My mind says, “Open the door,” so I say, “Okay” and open the door. Then in a way I may feel myself walking but I am not going to stop because my goal is to open the door. I am not saying that you always do this in your life but I am just pointing out something which you may already know, and that is that every instant is equally important. If you manage to get into this space that we are trying to show you and get you to fall into as often as possible, then when you go to open the door you say, “I know this is the target but still, this is the important moment, and this is the important moment, and this is the important moment.” If I make every moment the important moment then I might get half way to the door and then stop, and I stop for no known reason at all. I look up and think, “Aha, there’s the garden,” and I connect with the garden – which is something I like to do and always manage to do, to bring nature in which totally turns me on. In this moment this is the most important thing for me. Never mind the door, right now this is what matters to me, to connect through the eyes with the world – and I allow that to happen. Then my attention moves again and I take another step. Now my hands start to hit my thighs but I didn’t plan to do that, my hands did that, or something did that through my hands. I am not deciding to do anything, it is just happening. Then I continue to walk to the door. I pass Varuni and I have to stop and say hello, I can’t just walk past Varuni, and then my hand goes to the door. I stop, I turn around and say goodbye, and I open the door.

That was a journey, and what a beautiful journey I made out of walking from the middle of the room to the door because I used every instant. Each moment you are free, even if you have a project. I know sometimes you are not free, like when you are at work you can’t do what I have just shown you, but there are many occasions in life when you can, or you can decide to. Even if it doesn’t look like you can, you actually can. You can taste each moment, and not only in yourself as these guys did – Safara said she felt herself getting closer, picking up the glass, then coming closer to me, and that was fine. Even the picking up of the glass was done very well. And Kyane, even though he was moving I could see he was conscious of each moment – but most people don’t do that. You are here, then there, then there, and then there, but each moment you must be present.

Each moment the whole of the universe is around you and you are in the middle of it. If you are open and receptive then the universe will give you something that is not in your structures. If I just go then the only things I am going to do are the things that are contained in the way that I normally behave. This is because I am not open when I am moving to the door to anything but what is inside me and the way I normally walk and the way I normally open the door. So I am completely limited in my movements to my past, my habits, and my thoughts. But if I throw all that away and say, “I am in touch with the whole universe. I am part of the universe, I am the centre of the universe – we all are – and so when I move to the door I walk through the universe and the universe is with me. The universe is with me right now.” Then when the universe says, “Swing your arms” – of course it doesn’t actually say this but if it leads to me swinging my arms – I let my arms swing. The mind says, “Why am I swinging my arms?” because the mind wants to know what the meaning is, what the purpose is, what it will achieve, or am I just an idiot or crazy!

When I walk again and am with each instant, then again the garden talks to me, I stop, I feel my next couple of breaths – which I wouldn’t normally do if I was walking on automatic – and then I continue walking again. If you do that you will live a hundred times longer, because instead of it being one instant out of every hundred that you are conscious of, there are one hundred instants that you are conscious of.

(Michael puts on some music)

Make free movements.
