The Evolution of Life

The Universe Intends and Works through Energy Fields

It seems to me that the universe we are part of very much has an intention. It has a purpose and a plan. Exactly what that plan is I cannot even guess right now, but I have a feeling about it. I don’t think the universe has just happened in a totally mysterious way and that all there is to do is to live one’s life according to one’s preferences and choices. I think that in every moment there is a direction and that unless one tunes in to that intention in some way, one’s life will never really be completely satisfactory.

The universe that is behind all the forms, all the phenomena that are in it, has no intention for itself. What is behind everything is both at the beginning and at the end. So its intention is for the phenomena that are contained within it.

Whether or not there are any other planets like Earth in other constellations need not concern us. Even if the intention for such a planet were similar to the intention for this planet, the processes that it would work through would be quite different from ours. When any human being, Charles Darwin or other people who have worked in that direction, explore what they explore, they can only discover what they are capable of discovering. We never know what is there, we only know what we are capable of perceiving as being there. And there is a great deal that we are simply incapable of seeing and realising, which does exist and which we do not understand, and which we have not yet discovered and in many cases cannot discover. And that so influences the situation that what we think we know is really not very much at all.

What has been discovered so far about evolution is really a very small fragment, I think, of what actually has been happening and what is taking place right now. I do not think, for instance, that you will find any discussion in any of the literature about the kinds of things that were going on in this room yesterday evening, things which have gone on in many, many rooms over the past few years. If Charles Darwin had been here last night, he would have wondered what the hell was going on.

I would have said to him, “Charlie, how do you fit this into your theory?” (laughter)

And he would have said, “Well, I will have to go and think about it and rewrite my book.”

That reminds me of a famous story about Ludwig Wittgenstein, who was Austrian but actually spent most of his time in Cambridge working on his philosophy and who wrote two seminal books, which are still highly regarded. It is said that when he was writing his first book, he would not see anybody, he more or less locked himself in his room. His meals were brought on a tray and put outside and he would open the door and whip it in and eat something. He just wrote and wrote until his book was finished. When he had finally finished, he went out of his room, down into the quadrangle of his college, feeling triumphant - and then he saw a young student walking along, swinging his bag and jumping up and down and dancing for no reason at all. The story is that Wittgenstein went into total shock as he realised that he had not taken this into consideration in his book. So he went back to his room, threw the book away and started again. (laughter)

I am saying that if Charlie had been here last night, he would have had to throw his book away.

There is always something, which we can suddenly see, that we do not take into consideration in our theories about anything, and that includes the theories you have about your wives and husbands and girlfriends and boyfriends. One moment they can do something or say something and you think, “My god, I don’t know this person at all! (laughter) I thought I knew her, I thought I knew her as well as she knows herself, but now she has said this or this has happened and I am lost.”

My view, based on my experience of these energy spaces over many years, is that evolution does not take place in the way that most people think it does. My first principle is that the universe has an intention. And since it is already where it has to be and always will be, the intention is to do with the phenomena within the universe. Its intention for the planet Earth is concerned with the life on this planet. It works through the most highly evolved species that is here on Earth, and that is not the dolphins, but we human beings. (laughter) And it works initially through certain human beings, like Buddha and Jesus, but then works through them into energyfields. So energyfields are a platform for change.

It is very hard to change something substantial into something else. It is very hard to change my hand into a foot, for example. It would not be so hard to change this chair into some kind of table, but it would first have to be broken down and reduced to wood before it could be rebuilt into some other object. But energy is always available for change, because energy is always open to other energies.

Last night I asked you to experience your own energy field and at the same time to experience the energyfield all around you and to explore letting the two meet, unite, relate or commune together, and if you managed to do that you will have seen that if you can allow it, this simply happens by itself. Even if you do not allow it, it can still happen, but if you do allow it, it can happen more totally, more quickly and more fully. So also your energies can become transformed by simply opening them to other energies that are finer, subtler and more universal than the ones you are living through right now.

If a group of people are together and tuned in to a certain level of energy, then the universe uses that as a platform for transformation. One moves from the individual to the quasi-universal. An energyfield is quasi-universal in that it has a common ground in human beings, in all life, really, but it is not yet the one energy of the whole universe, it is in between the individuality and the one cosmos. The vibration of that energyfield is a step up from the individuality into something that is in the direction of the one energyfield that is all of existent life. When you are in a human energyfield, as you are right now and as many of you have been for some time, your individuality is still there, but you are also sharing something with all the people who are in that energyfield. Since that energyfield is almost formless and vibrant and totally flexible, it is very much available and suitable for transformation.

There is the famous story, which I am sure most of you have heard, about the monkeys who lived on some islands in the South Pacific, I think, and who were very fond of sweet potatoes. They used to dig up the potatoes and of course they were covered in dirt and sand, so they would try to pick off the dirt or suck it off and spit it out. That was the way they did it for many, many aeons. And then one of the monkeys - who had a first-class degree from the Monkey University (laughter) - took his sweet potato into the sea and washed it. And then naturally all the other monkeys on that island started to do the same. But what also happened was that all the other monkeys on all the other islands also started to do the same. And they did not have mobile phones at that time either. Somehow the whole energyfield got tuned in to this little jump in the way that they dealt with their foodstuffs.

The same thing happens when we are in the Energyfield together. Anything that gives a member of that Energyfield a sudden jump will be communicated to everybody else in some way. And this level of communication or communion that is shared here is of course also present in everybody else in the world, although they are not aware of it and they are certainly not living from it. But the presence of that Energyfield and that vibration in this room can act as a stimulus - maybe a very tiny one - to everybody who lives on this planet. However, as we see time and time again throughout history it is not enough if a few people or even a lot of people begin to see things in a new way, as long as there are a number of people who don’t. Then there is trouble for everybody. For a great evolutionary movement to happen more or less everybody has to be included.

I feel that that is the background to what is going on here. We are here for ourselves, we are here for our intimate friends, who will also benefit from it, we are here for everybody who is in the room, because whatever benefits happen for us will be shared, and we are also here for all the people in Berlin, all the people in Germany, all the people in Europe, and so on. We are here for the whole of humanity.

If we do not move as a species all together, then disaster is just around the corner. And the more powerful the weapons of destruction grow, as they have done, the fewer people there need to be outside that transformation to destroy all possibility of transformation. So maybe we do not have much time. So I’d better stop talking. (laughter).
