The Energy Way
All Is Light
We’re all a mixture of light and shadow. Look outside and you’ll see the sun is shining today, you’ll see there’s light, and where there are buildings and trees there is shadow, where there are corners that the sun can’t reach there is shadow, shade. But in order to have that duality of that contrast of light and shadow, originally, behind that variation, there has to be light without shadow.
In this room, too: we have artificial lights, and they cast shadows, and around the shadows, between the shadows, there’s light. There’s always a light thrown against things, and that creates a mixture of light and shade. So in each of us there is also this mixture, as I’m sure you have become aware in yourself and others - a mixture of light and shade, or darkness. And behind that, in each living thing, there is just light.
So when I am moving around in the room, or connecting with you directly in person as I did last night, then what I am doing is two things - well, really one thing, but it has two effects. The first effect - how I do it, I don’t really know, but I do - is that I bring the energy of more or less pure light to you, and then your own light starts to shine by a process of reflection or resonance. And the second effect is that as a result of that light energy coming on your shadow, which itself is a product of your own light, then this shadow starts to fade. And as it does that, it often creates strong reactions or responses in you - physically, emotionally, energetically. Now, most therapy is about dealing with those dark areas with the light of awareness and intelligence. To deal with the dark areas when we are doing therapy or we are doing some inner work on ourselves, we’re bringing the light of intelligence, and perception, and awareness on ourselves, and seeing if with these tools we can lighten ourselves. And that’s very much a step-by-step process. You can work on that for the rest of your lives and achieve some good effects, for sure, and slowly you can dispel the shadows. And then, in a way, because you can maybe understand what is happening, that you’re working on this, the mind can get a feeling of progress.
So that’s a kind of process that can take a long time. But the place that you arrive at, of course, is already in you, so you’re not really getting somewhere, what you’re doing is removing things that are separating you from your own source of light. So having worked in that way for many years, now I go for awakening in people the source itself, so that it draws you back there. And you might have to go there or make a connection with that light source a thousand times or more, maybe ten thousand times, before you can actually live there. But when you taste it, as you might do this weekend if you haven’t done already, then the taste of it is so exquisite and so true that it gives you a lot of incentive and determination to go on, to know it’s not just a dream, that it really is existing, and not only in certain privileged people, but in you. And that can for many people provide the incentive to really say, “I want that in my life.”
Now, one more thing. Although that source of light is inside you, the way to find it or to return to it is through opening to what is all around you. Because when I say that the light is the essence of your existence, then I am saying that in all of life that light is the essence of its existence. Light is energy which has a certain vibration, and that vibration of energy that is light is everywhere.
In forms of meditation, when you try and penetrate yourself to reach the light, you don’t really have an ally in that project, you just have your own determination. The process of trying to get there is coming from your mind, and that is not light - not in the way we use it, anyway. So it’s a hard task, and a very lonely task; you’re actually moving in the dark to find the light. And if you’ve ever tried to find a light switch in a room you’ve never been in before, and the room is totally dark, you know it can take a long time. If it is a big room, it can take a whole lifetime. But when you open to what is all around you, then you can connect with that light, and that light is not confined to your own small area of existence and therefore limited in power; then all around, if you can open yourself to it, there’s a whole universal expanse of light waiting to include you.
If all is light, then nothing is other than light, so everything is one. And the moment your darkness is there, then there’s a separation. Your particular darkness is your particular separation. So to find the light you have to go to the deepest part in you, and at the same time you have to let go your own separation and join the universal light.
It’s like you have to go deep, deep down inside yourself through all the shadows to find the light. But if you just do that, as meditators do, then you are losing the assistance of everything around you. So what we do in this Work is that we do that, and at the same time we open to what is around us. I help to create an energyfield here where light is a principle factor, and if you open to all that is around you during the seminar, you will find that you will connect with these very light energies, and that they will be hitting you and creating a resonance in you of your own participation in that light.
