A Taste of the Other Shore
The Human Birthright
Traditionally, on this last session, I answer people’s questions and add a bit of what I want to say, but you haven’t given me the opportunity to do that, because you haven’t asked any questions.
If I had had something to say, I would have said it already, but the only things I’ve said have been things like, “Stand up and make a circle.” After three and a half days I haven’t spoken a word, and this is the first time that I’ve ever got to the last session of a group without saying anything. That’s rather special, and to receive no questions is also rather special. Perhaps it’s just that you were all too tired to write your questions out, and now you want to spoil everything by asking them out loud.
(silence)
Why’s everybody’s looking at me?
Josha: I have an observation, and maybe it’s a question too. I’ve noticed that this Easter Festival was very serene and quiet, without a lot of interaction, and much less dancing than a usual seminar. What was different for you?
The difference for me was exactly what you described. It was also serene for me.
It might have something to do with Easter and what it represents for Christian people. We had no dancing, except at the end, but really, each time I came in it was the energy in the room that was the deciding factor. I wasn’t going to disturb everything by saying, “It’s time for us to dance now,” because that feeling just wasn’t there. I came in and connected with the way things were, and as it worked out it was very quiet, serene, strong and deep. It didn’t seem to need some of the other elements that we often have in the seminars. People didn’t appear to be asking for those things, and I was very happy to accept that.
(silence)
If you can’t find it in yourselves to ask me a question, then I want you to ask yourselves a question.
At this festival, thirty-two people from a number of different countries have met together – some that have worked with me many times, some a few times, and some not at all – and for a few days more or less everybody was able to reach a state of tranquillity, peace, and contentment. That’s another quality that seems to be present; contentment. You have no questions because everybody seems to be content with what has happened here. The question that you might want to ask now is; how did that happen?
Well, it did happen, so it must be something that’s possible through seeking and finding the energy flows that are all around, and joining with them. Through doing that such a transformation can happen to a group of people.
This is not a surprise for me, because I know that this can occur, and I also know that it can silence questions. The mind goes quiet, a contentment is there, and if you’re content, then you don’t feel the need to ask questions.
Maybe tomorrow, or next week, you will think, “Ah, I should have asked Michael this!” So you think, “Next time I’ll make sure I ask him,” but then the same thing happens. Usually when this happens people write to me, and I give them an answer that way.
As Josha said, serenity is with us, and that can only be the case if it’s present in most of the people here; a room can’t be serene if the people in it aren’t. Everybody found a certain level of serenity, and if this happens then you just want to go on feeling serene, so questions don’t arise.
A paradox that I’ve come to see through my explorations is that the whole universe is absolutely at rest. I feel this very strongly. I know it’s peaceful and quiet here right now, but I still feel this in much more active situations. There may be confusion, wars, supernovas exploding, and meteors crashing into each other, but such things are not all that is going on; they are just the effect of the movement from the Centre, and there remains a deep tranquillity that pervades everything.
As I say in my work with people, it isn’t a question of trying to reach beautiful states of Being – like tranquillity, bliss, and love – through your own efforts. If you try to reach them you may succeed, but you won’t stay there, because the very movement of trying to do that carries you to them, then beyond them.
These qualities are always present, and they don’t have to be created or struggled for. In a way it is a struggle, but not of the usual kind; it’s a question of letting go, being open, and letting oneself receive certain possibilities. Then we can join the dimensions where such qualities exist permanently.
If you’re feeling tranquil – as Josha is, and many others of you are – then your whole being is with a level which has the vibration of tranquillity; if you move in resonance with that vibration then you are going to feel it.
Beyond your capacity to feel tranquillity, love, and bliss, there is something else. There is the one that feels these things, and you can’t capture or touch him or her, though he or she is there all the time. When all the games of pretending to be this or that cease, then you suddenly feel that you’re the one who you really are. This is greatly helped by opening to the dimensions that I talked about, because they will clear the false ‘you’ away. That, to me, is true purity.
Purity has got nothing to do with not drinking, not having a smoke, or not committing adultery; those things are just the result of people having some idea of what purity means. When you feel the one that’s behind everything, and you feel that you are yourself, then that is the purest thing you can find. It might express itself in ways that other people call ‘impure’, but don’t take any notice of them. You will know that you are clear, right, true, and perfect, and that, as I see it, is the goal; to reunite with who you really are.
When you are really there, and can stay in that space, then every moment is a joy. With every breath, every step, and every glance, there is a bubbling up of joy inside. That is a deep gift that human beings have been given; the capacity of continuous joy; the joy of Being.
Thank you all, because I’ve felt this very much during these days with you. Beyond the Energy Work, the silence, the serenity, and the warmth, I’ve been able to find the simple joy of Being, and that is just great. I know this has nothing to do with the particular individual that I am, but is the birthright of humankind. Not many people manage to receive their birthright, but those who do show that it is possible for all. So don’t get lost. What you think is found is lost, and what you think is lost is found, so it’s a bit tricky. If you get back to your life and say, “Right, now I’m found,” then you’re lost.
Okay, if you’re not going to ask me anything more, then I’ll let you get on your way.
A participant: So it’s not that you do something with the energy, it’s just a question of letting it happen?
We promised not to talk anymore!
The participant: I’ve heard that the energy grows and grows. Is there such a thing as growing energy?
You could say that one grows into it. One grows into an opportunity to be in a place where everything you do is organic and connected, not only within yourself, but with the universe as a whole. When that happens, then because you’re a living being, and a very clever combination of things, the outcome is that you will feel a lot of energy. Whether there’s such a thing as ‘growing energy’ is just a question of the terms we use to describe our own state of Being, but the quality of it is always joy.
When a flower opens, if it can feel joy, then it will feel joy. When a tree blossoms, if the tree can feel joy, then it will feel joy. When a frog croaks in springtime, I’m sure the frog is feeling its equivalent of joy. When you’re happening like that – like flowers growing, frogs croaking, and birds singing – then energy is moving through you, and the purity that I talked about is present. A human being is much more varied and multiple than the examples I just gave, so the purity is felt in our distinct way.
As far as the energy in your question is concerned, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Eat well, but don’t hold onto it, or you’ll get indigestion! That’s the thing about energy; if you try to hold onto it – as some people do, in an attempt to make something of themselves or get power – then you’ll get indigestion and give others indigestion too, but if you let it flow through you then you can enjoy it, pass it on, and allow something new to come along.
